General Questions
What is Nivrava?
Nivrava is a privately-owned island sanctuary located within an inland lakeland area in Northern Ireland. It offers eco-sensitive accommodation, a place of creative retreat, and a developing haven for wildlife — especially the endangered curlew. More than a destination, Nivrava is a space for stillness, reflection, and meaningful connection with land, sea, and self.
Can I stay on the island?
Yes — stays are possible at certain times of year and are designed for individuals or small groups seeking solitude, inspiration, or reconnection. Accommodation is simple but soulful — off-grid, eco-conscious, and tuned to the rhythms of nature.
Booking is by request only. Please share a little about your intention or interest.
What kind of accommodation is available?
We offer eco-based lodging, such as a small hut, shepherd’s shelter, or minimalist cabin. The accommodation is rustic, with essential comforts, solar power, and rainwater collection. You bring presence, we provide space. We currently host one party at a time — so your stay is entirely private.
Who is Nivrava for?
Nivrava is for those seeking:
- Solitude or spiritual retreat
- A quiet place to create or reflect
- Nature immersion, digital detox, or storm-watching
- Conservation-minded experiences
- Art residencies or nature-based contemplation
Can I help or contribute while staying?
Yes. We welcome those who wish to contribute to the island’s stewardship, whether through conservation tasks, creative documentation, ecological research, or simply respectful presence. These Purposeful Stays are offered at a reduced rate or by donation.
Is the island suitable for families or children?
Nivrava is currently best suited to adults seeking quiet. It is not equipped for young children due to terrain, remoteness, and minimal safety infrastructure. That said, respectful older children or teenagers may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Is Nivrava accessible?
At present, Nivrava is only accessible by boat and requires a degree of physical ability to traverse uneven ground. There are no roads, paths, or facilities for wheelchair access — though we hope to improve gentle access over time in consultation with conservation partners.
Is there WiFi or mobile reception?
There is no WiFi, and mobile signal is intermittent — which is part of the appeal for many guests. We recommend embracing the digital silence, though emergency contact is always available through us.
Do you sell artwork or sculpture?
Yes. Nivrava also serves as a creative space and gallery for original artwork and nature-inspired sculpture, some of which is created on or inspired by the island. Pieces are available online or by inquiry during your stay.
Can I rent the island for an event or film?
We welcome proposals for small-scale, low-impact use such as:
- Filming or photography projects
- Artistic residencies
- Philosophy or writing retreats
- Ecological study groups
We do not host parties, weddings, or large gatherings.
How do I book or inquire?
Please fill out the inquiry form on our site. We respond personally to every request and may follow up with a brief conversation to ensure alignment. This helps us keep Nivrava intentional and in harmony with the land.
